AfriCan Theatre Ensemble is looking for a Stage Manager for the production of a one-act play. Rehearsals: the weekends of June 8-9; 15-16; 22- 23; 29-30. Tech run and performance: Jul 2 - 13, 2013, at the Studio Theatre, Toronto Centre for the Arts.

Job Description

 Reporting to the Artistic Coordinator, the Stage Manager is responsible for:

Generating the lists and a graphical representation of the different elements in the show and when they happen: the props, costumes, set, sound cues, etc;

Creating a prompt binder to serve as a record of the meetings, rehearsals and performances from the beginning to the end of the production and submitting the binder to the artistic coordinator and the producer at the end of the production;

Communicating promptly and effectively with the actors, the designers, the technical director, the director, the producer and the artistic coordinator issues that concern them;

Creating the rehearsal calendar and making it available ahead of first rehearsal to the members of the production, creative and technical teams (the artistic coordinator, producer, director, technical director, actors and designers);

Making the daily rehearsal schedule and posting it in a conspicuous place at the rehearsal venue;

Making sure all rehearsals are safe, run in a timely manner and in accordance with the company’s guidelines (and if the company is mounting a union production, in accordance with the Independent Theatre Agreement);

Placing first aid kit in a conspicuous location in the rehearsal venue;

Familiarizing the actors with the rehearsal and performance venues setup;

Opening the rehearsal venue and setting it up for rehearsal, cleaning it up when the rehearsal is over and closing up;

Scheduling tech and dress rehearsals;

Writing and submitting a short daily report, from the start of rehearsal to the end of production, to the artistic coordinator and the producer, and informing other members of the production, including the director, designers, technical director, and actors, about specific issues that concern them;

Ensuring that the performances take place on time and calling each show;

Operating the relevant board/sound system;

Assisting with obtaining props and set items for the show;

Carrying out any other assigned tasks consistent with production stage management for the show.

 

The Production Stage Manager may not cancel/reschedule a rehearsal/show without the approval of the Artistic Coordinator.
